Presentations are an important tool in all industries. Yet often they are badly structured, monotonous and in the worst case incomprehensible.
This course shows the requirements of well-prepared presentations. Students will train their presentation skills and also give a short presentation in class. Apart from content and structure, also non-verbal behaviour (gestures and voice) will be focused on.
Participants must have prepared a short 5-10 minute presentation in advance.

How to give successful oral presentations? The present workshop (held in English language throughout) aims at an improvement of the presentation skills of graduate students.
Besides a short review of the basic foundations of successful oral presentations, the workshop will cover advanced methods and techniques for preparing and performing oral presentations with special focus on the particular setting at international scientific conferences. As a major element of the workshop, the attendees will prepare and practice scientific presentations that will be discussed with and by their colleagues. The presentations will be monitored by video and thoroughly analyzed in group discussions with the colleagues at the workshop days.
With the goal to reach an advanced level of presentation skills, the attendees should have basic experience in giving oral presentations and should have a fair knowledge of the English language. The readiness for transdisciplinary discussions is also highly welcome.
Lecturer: Thomas Heinze/Michael Marx
